Editors' guide: print advert sizes
Artwork sizes to ask advertisers for when booking Instantprint A5 Village Voice ads.
3 September 2026
Village Voice print is Instantprint A5 (trim 148 × 210 mm). Type sits in a 120 × 190 mm area (14 mm side margins, 10 mm from the top, plus the page-number strip). Half, quarter and full-page ads use ISO A ratio (√2); spare space is white gutter. Print never crops.
Ask advertisers for these sizes:
Size | Artwork to supply |
|---|---|
Full page | A5 portrait 148 × 210 mm |
½ page | A6 landscape 148 × 105 mm |
¼ page | A7 landscape 105 × 74 mm |
⅛ page | Strip 116 × 20 mm |
The printed image for half, quarter and full is a little smaller than the named A size because of page margins and white gutters.
An eighth-page ad is a full-width horizontal strip — the full 120 mm type column, but only ⅛ of the 190 mm content height. The slot is about 24 mm tall; after the ~2 mm gap between stacked slots the usable area is about 22 mm high. Ask for 116 × 20 mm strip artwork, centred in that slot with white gutter around it — the same rule as other sizes: print never crops, spare space stays white.
⅛ is not ISO A. Do not use A8 or a landscape √2 rectangle — in a strip that only yields about 31 × 22 mm centred with huge side gutters.
In the CMS, set the size under Magazine → Adverts — options are ⅛, ¼, ½ and full.
