Privacy notice

Who we are
This notice is for the Tideswell and District Village Voice website. We are a local magazine for Tideswell, Litton and nearby places, and we are the data controller for personal information we hold about the magazine.
You can contact us at Open your own mail app. We are based in Tideswell, Derbyshire.
What we hold and why
The public website does not ask you to create an account.
We do hold some personal information while we produce the magazine:
Advertisers — names, contact details and related notes, so we can take bookings, handle artwork and invoices, and stay in touch about adverts.
Articles and notices — if you write to us about an article, listing or notice, we may keep the contact details from that correspondence so we can reply, check facts and follow up.
What's On — some listings include a named contact, email or phone number that the organiser has given us to publish.
Website messages — if you use a contact form on this site, we keep the details you send so we can reply.
We do not sell personal information.
How the site is used (Insights)
We collect anonymous figures about how the site is used — which pages and articles are opened, which other site sent you here (the hostname only), whether you were on a phone, tablet or desktop, roughly which hour of the day, whether you started or sent a contact form, taps on Instagram or Facebook, and how long a page or article stays on screen. This does not identify you, does not use analytics cookies, and is stored separately from contact-form messages and magazine records.
Lawful bases
Under UK GDPR we rely on:
Contract, where we have an advertising arrangement with you.
Legitimate interests in running a local magazine: corresponding about articles and notices, keeping advertiser records, publishing listings people have asked us to include, answering messages, and understanding how the website is used through anonymous figures.
You can object to processing that is based on legitimate interests. See “Your rights” below.
Cookies and similar storage
The public magazine website does not use analytics or advertising cookies.
We may keep a reading preference on this device (whether Focus mode is on) using the browser’s local storage, so the page can look the same on your next visit. That stays on your device. A short notice on the site explains this and links here; you can dismiss it with OK.
If you sign in to the editing (admin) area of the site, a session cookie is needed so you stay logged in. That is only for people who have an editor account.
Other organisations we use
We use other organisations to run the website:
The site is hosted by Vercel.
Images and files are stored with Vercel Blob.
The database is hosted by Supabase.
They process information on our behalf to provide those services. If you donate using the link on our donate page, that payment is handled by Square, not by us.
If you use a website contact form, Cloudflare Turnstile may run a spam check before the message is sent.
How long we keep information
We keep advertiser and correspondence records while we still need them to produce the magazine — for example while an advert is current, or while we might reasonably need to follow up — and we do not keep them longer than necessary.
Your rights
You have the right to:
ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you (access)
ask us to correct it (rectification)
ask us to delete it (erasure), in some circumstances
ask us to restrict how we use it
object to processing based on legitimate interests
ask for your data in a portable form, where that right applies
complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you are unhappy with how we have handled your information
To exercise any of these rights, email Open your own mail app.
