Library of Things – Grand Opening In early June, Tideswell’s Library of Things (LoT) hosted a “Grand Opening” to thank the individuals and groups who have supported the new service for our local community. MP John Whitby and Councillors Chapman, Mellstrom, and Buttle, joined the 50+ people attending to learn about how the LoT works.
The LoT has over a hundred items of household and gardening equipment to lend out, and already more than forty people have registered to use the library. You can volunteer to help and learn more about how it operates on our website (https://tdeg.org.uk/library-of-things). It’s open Weds 16:30-18:30 and Sats 8:30-10:30.
Supporting our young people to enjoy nature and get involved TDEG are supporting four local groups to encourage children to enjoy nature and get involved in their area. We’ve provided funding to Litton Forest School, Tideswell’s Preschool Group, Bishop Pursglove School’s Nature Club, and the Nature Tots at Tideswell’s Kitchen Garden. Equipment for nature study, litter-picking and other outdoor activities will help their work.
All of this was possible due to the wonderful generosity of local people donating to our monthly Repair Café. Many thanks!
The Repair Café has also welcomed several young people on a Saturday morning who are keen to watch our expert volunteers at work, learning how to do their own repairs, and assist in the running of the event (under 16s must be accompanied by an adult).
“Think Hedgehog”
Morag Boyd (from the British Hedgehog Preservation Society) spoke to a packed FSC hall with around eighty people present at our TDEG May meeting. Clearly, we love our hedgehogs!
Morag explained why hedgehogs are under threat, and things we can all do in our gardens and in community green spaces to help them. You can see her full presentation on our web site – https://tdeg.org.uk/think-hedgehog-british-hedgehog-preservation-society-talk-in-tideswell .
