Securing Its Future Operation
The library opened under community management on December 11th, 2023. Currently, we have twenty-one volunteers who are involved in running the library on a day-to-day basis. Visitor numbers have increased significantly although book transactions remain much as they were. The library has very supportive trustees who ensure that legal procedures are followed. Funds raised have reached a total of approximately £13,500. This means that structures and funding are in place for the library to continue.
It has been my privilege to have been involved with the individuals who have made all of this possible. However, I will not be continuing as leader/coordinator beyond Christmas 2026 as I will be quite old by then. The library management structure will need a replacement for me and, possibly, for one or two trustees at that point although transitional arrangements will need to be in place from mid-September.
If you would be prepared to step into the role I have undertaken, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can plan for the transition. Support will be given during this period and your new ideas and/or procedures can be put in place. The role entails a certain amount of time each week, but it is very rewarding in terms of interaction with others and will help to prevent the closure of this unique institution (there are only two Community Libraries in Derbyshire and the other one, at Woodville, is very different from ours).
If you are interested either in direct management of the library or indirectly as a trustee, please let me know as soon as possible.
